BINTULU: A man died and another seriously injured when the car they were travelling in lost control before skidding and overturning along Jalan Nyabau-Bintulu here, last night.

The incident at about 12 midnight resulted in the driver, Mathew Serang, 34, being trapped in the wreckage. He was confirmed dead by paramedics at the scene.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a distress call on the incident was received at 12.14am and a team of rescuers was rushed to the scene.

“There were six victims in the vehicle. Four of them were freed from the crash by civilians, while the driver and front passenger were pinned inside the car.

“Rescuers acted to extricate the two trapped victims using rescue equipment. However, the driver of the car was confirmed dead, while another victim was seriously injured,” the operations centre said in a statement.

The other four victims, including a 32-year-old woman, two children and an infant suffered minor injuries.

All the victims are believed to be travelling from Kidurong towards the Sibu junction.
