ASAJAYA: A local man was pronounced dead after being attacked by a crocodile while casting fishing nets with his brother in Sungai Sampun today (Dec 19).
The victim was identified as Gindek Julau, 41, from Kampung Sampun Tebun.
Worried about the victim’s condition, his brother quickly alerted the village chief to get help in searching for Gindek.
Civil Defence Force (APM) Samajaya district officer Lt Hafizul Samah said that a six-man team was dispatched to the scene, about 6km away, after receiving a distress call at 4.21 pm.
Upon arrival, they found that the victim’s body had already been recovered by the public at 4.05 pm.
He added that the body was later handed over to the police for transport to the hospital.
Also present at the scene were Asajaya firefighters and the police.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 5.47 pm.
