SARIKEI: A local man died, while his wife and child sustained injuries following a two-vehicle collision at KM438, Jalan Betong-Sarikei-Meradong yesterday (Nov 18).
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said the accident happened around 12.30 pm, and involved a Yamaha R25 motorcycle and a three-tonne lorry.
“Preliminary investigations found that the collision occurred when the motorcycle ridden by the victims, was in the process of overtaking a vehicle in front but crashed into the right side of the oncoming lorry.
“As a result, the 43-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics due to severe arm and leg injuries. His body was taken to Sarikei Hospital for a post-mortem.
“His pillion riders — a 39-year-old woman and a five-year-old child — sustained injuries to their hands, legs and heads.
“Both of them were also taken to the hospital for further treatment,” he said when contacted last night.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old lorry driver escaped unscathed in the collision.
Aswandy added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
