BINTULU: A local man drowned in Sebiew River early Sunday morning (Nov 10).

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said police were alerted to the incident by the Kampung Sebiew community leader at 8.15 am.

“The victim, a member of the village surau committee and a beverage trader, is believed to have fallen into the river while performing ablution before Subuh prayers,” he said.

His body was sent to Bintulu Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case is classified as sudden death.

Nixon urged the public to refrain from speculating on the incident to avoid confusion.
