SIBU: The intention of meeting a friend ended in tragedy for an Indonesian man when he was electrocuted while on a stroll along a shipyard at Sungai Sadit here.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the police received an emergency call on the incident from members of the public around 9.30am on Sunday.

Investigations revealed that the victim, identified as Andi Irfan, 20, from Sulawesi, Indonesia, had come to meet his friend and was walking in the said area before he was electrocuted.

“When the discovery was made, the body was lifeless on the ground.

“Examinations towards the victim’s body found burns on the wrist and bruises on the body believed to be due to electric shock,” he said in a statement.

He further said that the victim was not an employee at the shipyard.

According to paramedics, there was no sign of foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death.

Stanley added that the body was taken to Sibu Hospital for further action and that the Consulate General of Indonesia in Kuching had been informed on the matter.
