Man faces charges of illegal narcotics possession

KUCHING: A 29-year-old local man was brought before the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday on three counts of illegal narcotics possession while in remand at Puncak Borneo Prison last October.

However, no plea was taken from the accused Nur Firdaus Azaniah Osman in relation to the three charges read in front of Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

He was accused of possessing 25.46 grams of methamphetamine under the first and second counts.

He was prosecuted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1952 and is punishable under Section 39A(1) of the same Act.

Regarding the second and third counts, he is accused of having 5.30 grams of Ketamine and 1.43 grams of Methyleneoxy Amphetamine (MDA) in his possession .

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the second and third counts, and can be punished under Section 12(3) of the same act.

He was alleged to have committed the crime while in remand confinement at Puncak Borneo Prison on Oct 25 at 5.30 pm.

Magistrate Syarifah scheduled a re-mention of the case for Dec 15 pending results of the chemical analysis.

Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded in custody until that date.

It is believed that a prohibited material in the form of three pieces of white and black plastic wrap was kept in the rectum of a male prisoner during a daily routine check by prison employees.

The accused stated that when he was taken back from the court, he swallowed the prohibited item that belonged to him.

The case was prosecuted by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, and the accused was not represented by a counsel.
