BAU: A man, who fled upon seeing a police patrol, did not get far as he was soon arrested.
Worse was to follow when he was found in possession of a plastic packet containing 0.62g of syabu, following a body search.
In the 10am incident that occurred at Kampung Serasot on Monday (June 28), police came across the man acting suspiciously near an unnumbered house.
Bau OCPD DSP Poge Nyaon said the 34-year-old man, who is unemployed, panicked at the sight of the police patrol and fled to the main road.
“However, his freedom was short-lived as the patrol managed to arrest him.
“A search was carried out and a plastic packet containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu was found on him.”
The man did not have any prior case but he did test positive for drugs.
He will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted under Section 12(2), he is looking at a fine of up to RM100,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both.
Under Section 15(1)(a), he is looking at a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term not exceeding two years and two years supervision, if convicted.
