KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local man desperate to avoid his wife’s wrath resorted to filing a false police report, claiming to be the victim of an armed robbery in Kampung Tanjung Bundong after losing RM850 of her money.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the 25-year-old reported the supposed incident at the police station at 8.22 pm, alleging that two men on motorcycles — a Honda EX5 and a Honda Wave — had attacked him with a karambit knife.

In his report, the man claimed the “robbers” had taken RM850 in cash, three packages meant for customers, and his blue Redmi Note 9 mobile phone.

He even claimed to have sustained injuries from the supposed assault.

“However, during further interrogation, it became clear that no such crime had occurred.

“The man eventually confessed that he had lost his wife’s money while sleeping in his car at a parking lot in Bandar Riyal.

“He filed the false report in an attempt to avoid a scolding from his wife,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information with intent to cause a public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person.

The law provides an imprisonment for up to six months, or maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

In light of this, Jaimi warned the public against lodging false reports as it will give a negative impression of the occurrence of crime in the district.

“Strict action will be taken against anyone found to be making such false reports,” he said.
