KUCHING: An Indian male feared drown was still missing on Thursday (Sept 24). It was  the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

He reportedly fell off from a vessel nearby Isthmus Bridge, Jalan Dermaga on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call about the incident was received around 3.12pm..

The victim was identified as Santosh Kumar, aged 23.

“After 15 minutes departing from Sheng Jetty heading towards Kuching Barrage, the helmsman witnessed the victim falling off from the vessel.

“The crew attempted to save the victim by throwing a buoy to him but failed when he sank into the water, and immediately reported to the police about the incident,” the statement said.

Upon receiving the call, Tabuan Jaya fire station despatched a search and rescue (SAR) team of ten firefighters to the incident scene.

The SAR team began its second day operation yesterday (Thursday) at around 9am by using water surface searching method within 250-metre radius from the location where the victim fell.

Up till now, the victim is still missing.
