MIRI: A 59-year-old man is feared to have been attacked and killed by a crocodile while fishing in the Sungai Batu 4 area, Kuala Baram, earlier today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre reported receiving a distress call regarding the incident at 5.55 pm.

The victim, identified as Minggu Ikum, had been fishing since 7.30 am before he suddenly went missing, allegedly after being struck by a crocodile.

According to preliminary information, Minggu was alone at the time of the incident.

The victim’s daughter, who became concerned after his calls went unanswered, rushed to the scene after failing to contact her father at 11 am and again at 12 pm.

Upon reaching the riverbank, the daughter discovered the victim’s car parked by the roadside.

Further inspection revealed a torn fishing net and signs of a struggle on the riverbank, indicating the possibility of a crocodile attack.

A search operation to locate the missing man is currently underway, with authorities focusing on the stretch of river where the incident occurred.
