PADAWAN: A man was arrested for lodging a fake police report to avoid being fined by the National Registration Department (NRD) for losing his identity card for the third time.

The Padawan Criminal Investigation Division (CID) uncovered the 25-year-old’s dubious act after doubts arose over his report that he was robbed by three men.

Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the team questioned the suspect around 11.45am, Tuesday (Oct 18), and concluded that the incident had been fabricated.

“In his report, the man claimed that he was hanging out with three friends at a bus stop in Kampung Batu Kitang when they were approached by three strangers, who checked their bags and left.

“He claimed that he then realised that his wallet containing his identification card and driver’s licence had gone missing, believed to have been taken by the three men.

“He also claimed that he could not recognise the faces of the three men and suspected that they were from Kampung Batu Kitang.”

Supt Abang Zainal Abidin said the man, who is unemployed, made the fake police report because he wanted to avoid being fined by the NRD for losing his identity card yet again.
