MIRI: A 70-year-old man was cleaning his house yesterday morning when he was startled by a snake slithering over a photo frame.
This happened in a house at Kampung Haji Waheed at 11.26am.
Terrified, he called Miri Civil Defence Force for help.
The half-metre-long reptile, identified as Liopeltis tricolor or Malayan ring-necked snake, was snared by the APM team as it sought to escape.
It was then released back to it wild habitat.
According to mybis.gov.my, the Malayan ring-necked snake is a small snake with brown colouration, a black stripe running along the sides and light-coloured ventral scales.
The head is flattened and the long snout precedes the moderate eyes with rounded pupils. The body is cylindrical and covered with smooth scales.
These snakes are usually found in rock crevices or sharp trees such as the Salacca (Snake Fruit) tree.
These non-venomous snakes only grow up to 20-30cm.
