KUCHING: A local man was fined RM5,000 or sentenced to five months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday (Sept 19) after threatening to kill his 70-year-old mother for refusing to give him money.
Mohammad Hanafiah Omar, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which was presented in Malay before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the charge, he committed the offence at a house in Taman Sukma around 7 pm on July 15.
Details of the case state that around the time, in their residence, the complainant’s son raised his voice at the complainant and her husband. The root of the dispute was the mother’s refusal to hand over the money her son had demanded.
Subsequently, the accused tried to hurl a bottle of perfume at the complainant’s husband but was restrained by him.
Furthermore, the accused forcibly evicted his mother from the home, all the while threatening her life.
Fearing for her safety, the complainant alerted the police, which resulted in the accused’s arrest on July 16.
The investigation revealed that the accused threatened his mother, saying if she didn’t vacate his house, he would end her life. This threat greatly alarmed and distressed the complainant.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor ASP Rogayah Rosli, and the accused did not have legal representation.
