KUCHING: A local man was fined RM1,200 in default a month in prison by the Magistrate’s Court after he admitted to making a false police report about a robbery.

Norsaaruidin Nooraladdin, 32, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

The incident occurred at the Gita police station on July 17 at around 8.20 am.

According to ASP Arman Ibrahim, Norsaaruidin initially claimed he was robbed by four individuals on two motorcycles, wielding a meat cleaver, outside an eatery in Metrocity. They allegedly took RM460 from him.

However, police investigations found no evidence of the robbery.

Norsaaruidin later admitted that he fabricated the entire story to cover up the fact that he had spent the money to settle a debt.

He was unrepresented by counsel in court.
