Man fined RM1,000 for selling fireworks illegally

KUCHING: A 31-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or faced six months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for operating an unlicensed business selling 72 boxes of various types of fireworks and firecrackers.

Fami Assikin Salleh, 31, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to charges under Section 3(1) of the Business, Profession, and Trade Licensing Ordinance 1958.

According to the charges, Fami committed the offense at a shop on Jalan Bazar, Satok, around 10.45 pm, on April 3.

The case facts indicate that on the day of the incident, a police team raided a business premises and discovered the sale and storage of firecrackers and fireworks without a valid permit.

Fami was arrested, and 72 boxes of firecrackers along with several other firecrackers of various types were seized.

The investigation revealed that Fami was involved in the sale of firecrackers and fireworks without a valid license or permit.

Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang handled the prosecution, while Fami did not have legal representation.
