Man fined RM1,200 for damaging father’s table

KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here on Thursday (May 23) fined a man RM1,200, in default five months’ imprisonment, for damaging his father’s wooden table, causing RM90 in damages.

Mohamad Yazid Abdul Jalil, 41, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code, read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charge, he intentionally damaged his 69-year-old father’s table by hitting it with a hammer at their home in Taman Sorabaya Indah around 10am on May 15.

If found guilty, the offence carries a prison term of no less than one year and up to five years, a fine, or both.

The case facts revealed that during the incident, the accused went on a rampage, breaking the table outside the house with a hammer.
The table is used by the complainant for carpentry work.

The outburst was triggered by his dissatisfaction with his father’s refusal to give him money.

A police report was lodged by the complainant, leading to the accused’s arrest on May 16 at their residence.

The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
