Man fined RM1,500 for lodging false police report

KUCHING: A 34-year old man was fined RM1,500 in default two months’ jail term by the Magistrates’ Court yesterday for lodging a false police report to claim insurance money.

Ho Seng Chin pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 182 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Wan Ali.

Based on the facts of the case, Ho allegedly made a false police report at the Tabuan Jaya police station at about 9.30 pm on Aug 10, claiming that his car was lost and stolen by someone.

However, further investigations revealed that Ho had hidden intentions to make a vehicle insurance claim.

If convicted, the accused can face imprisonment for up to six months or a fine up to RM2,000 or both.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted the case while the accused was not represented by a legal counsel.
