KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Nov 28) fined a local man RM2,000, or in default, sentenced him to two months in jail for possessing a stolen electric drill and loudspeaker last week.
Sylvester Navy, 26, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail, a fine, or both upon conviction.
He committed the offense at a house in Taman Sri Malihah, Matang, around 11 pm on Nov 21.
According to the case facts, a 22-year-old complainant discovered that his belongings, including an electric drill, a speaker, a woofer, and two boxes of screws, were missing from a storeroom at the back of his house around 6 pm on Nov 21.
The complainant accused Sylvester, his former employee, of stealing the items, based on CCTV footage from the storeroom area.
The estimated losses amounted to RM1,000, and a police report was lodged for further investigation and action.
Sylvester was arrested at his residence, where the police confiscated the stolen items including an electric drill and a speaker.
Investigations confirmed that he was in possession of the stolen property, which belonged to his former employer.
Insp Ammarsoffi Yusoff, the prosecutor in the case, requested that Sylvester be appropriately punished as a deterrent.
