Man fined RM3,000 for hiding stolen items

KUCHING: In a case of theft concealment involving goods valued at RM1,500, the Magistrate Court here today (Jan 23) imposed a RM3,000 fine or a three-month prison sentence on a local man.

27-year-old Ahmad Faizzirul Ahmad Suhardian Syah admitted guilt to charges under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He was accused of aiding in the concealment of stolen items, specifically a drill, a grinder, and a roll of plug wire, all owned by a 67-year-old senior citizen.

The crime was committed in Kampung Rampangi, Jalan Sultan Tengah, around 1.50 pm on January 18.

If found guilty, he could be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

The case details revealed that the victim, a retiree, reported a break-in at his renovation-in-progress home by an acquaintance.

Further investigation showed forced entry through a window and the loss of various items, including the aforementioned machinery and tools, totalling a loss of RM1,500.

On January 18, police apprehended the suspect at a residence in Kampung Rampangi around 1.50 pm, seizing items in his possession.

Investigation confirmed the suspect had hidden the stolen goods, with the victim identifying all recovered items as his property.
