Man fined RM3,000 for possessing drugs

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today fined a man RM3,000 in default six months imprisonment  for possession of 0.06 grammes of drugs last year.

Brandon, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge read by the court interpreter before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge, he was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act.

If convicted, the punishment could include a fine of up to RM100,000 or an imprisonment of up to five years.

He was accused of possessing 0.06 grammes of Methamphetamine at a house in Taman Desa Wira, here at around 4.30 pm on May 2, 2023.

According to the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the police arrested a man at a house in Taman Desa Wira, suspected of being involved in drug activities.

Upon inspection, the accused handed over a transparent plastic packet containing crystal-like substances to the police.

The item was sent to the Chemistry Department and a report confirmed the substance to be Methamphetamine weighing 0.06 grammes.

The prosecution was handled by prosecuting officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
