KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM3,500 by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Sep 17) for injuring another man using a wooden stick.
The accused, Airwandy Kusin, 43, committed the act out of dissatisfaction after he was alleged of stealing fish at a fish shop in Kampung Bako.
Airwandy pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
If convicted, the offence carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison or a fine or whipping or any combination thereof.
He was accused of committing the offence at a premise on Jalan Haruan, Kampung Bako, around 10 am on September 11 last year.
According to the case facts, on the day of the incident, the victim was struck in the face with a wooden stick at a fish-selling premise.
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained severe injuries to the head, a wound on the right shoulder, a broken middle finger, cuts on the left fingers, and required 10 stitches on the left finger after receiving hospital treatment.
The victim lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused.
Investigations revealed that the identification parade positively identified Airwandy as the perpetrator.
As such, the accused was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
The case was prosecuted by prosecuting officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused was unrepresented by a lawyer.
