Man fined RM4,000 for retaining stolen TV

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM4,000 in default 10 months’ jail for retaining a stolen 50-inch television earlier this month.

Khaldum Abdullah, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

Khaldum was found to have committed the offence at a house in Taman Stutong Jaya at around 8.40 pm on Nov 5.

Based on the case facts, on the morning of Nov 6, the television owner contacted his nephew and informed him that his house in Taman Stutong Jaya had been broken into.

The nephew visited his uncle’s house and found that a 50-inch Samsung television, valued at around RM1,500, was missing.

Following that, the nephew lodged a police report, which led to Khaldum’s arrest on Nov 6 in Kampung Tabuan Melayu.

Investigation revealed that Khaldum and his accomplice, who are still at large, had taken possession of the television and sold it to another individual for RM290.

The proceeds from the sale were split equally between Khaldum and his accomplice, who has since fled.
