LUBOK ANTU: The body of a local man, reported missing after being swept away by strong currents at Sungai Subong, was found drowned this morning (Sept 1).

Last Friday (Sept 30), the victim, identified as Mohd Fandi Wong Mohd Awang Wong, 20, had gone to the river to bathe with his friends.

Once they were done, they attempted to cross the river to reach the other side. However, Fandi was suddenly swept away by strong currents and disappeared midstream.

It was reported the victim did not know how to swim.

The victim’s family wept after their loved one’s body was recovered from the river this morning.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that Fandi’s body was discovered by rescuers at 8.30am, about 500 metres downstream from where he was last seen.

His body was then taken to the search and rescue (SAR) control post for family identification before being handed over to the police for transfer to the hospital for post-mortem.

Following the discovery, the operation concluded at 9.30am.
