BAU: A man was found dead in front of a temple in Siniawan yesterday.
Sources said the victim, who was an avid temple goer, would normally participate in the temple’s events and performances such as karaoke.
Witnesses said People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members were on duty at the multi-purpose hall heard someone shouting at 6am near the stage where the man was later found.
At 8am, the sound system and lighting workers who came to set up the stage found a motionless man and contacted the authorities for assistance.
Its district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said police received the report at 9.10am.
The deceased was identified as Chong Khiuk Kong, 57, from Mile 27 Kuching-Serian Road.
He pointed out that the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics from the Bau Hospital and that the body has been brought to the hospital’s mortuary to be claimed.
“Police are still trying to locate the deceased’s family. The victim’s belongings have been brought to the Siniawan police station for further action,” he said when contacted.
Poge pointed out that the case has been classified as sudden death pending a post-mortem report.
