MIRI: The body of a 40-year-old man who was believed to be mentally ill was found hanging from the balcony of his family home in Kampung Riam Jaya on Saturday morning, with a hosepipe around his neck.
The discovery was made around 4am by a fishing enthusiast, who was passing by the house while on his way home that morning and immediately alerted the deceased’s father.
Upon responding to an alert call received, a Mobile Police Vehicle (MPV) unit was deployed to the scene.
The body was retrieved by the family while waiting for the police to arrive.
According to Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, preliminary investigation conducted at the scene showed that there were no indications of foul play or any suspicious injuries.
Prior to the incident, the deceased went out from the house on Friday evening without telling his mother.
The body has been taken to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.
A close source of the family said that the deceased had been struggling with mental illness for quite some time but was never referred to any medical facility for treatment.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
