KUCHING: A man was sentenced to eight months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (Feb 6) for injuring his father.
Razmy Selamat, 37, pleaded guilty to the charge read out by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
He was charged with deliberately injuring his 60-year-old father at a house in Jalan Sultan Tengah at about 11pm, Nov 27, 2022.
If convicted under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same Code, he is looking at a prison sentence of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
The court ruled that the accused would serve his sentence from the date of his arrest, Nov 28, 2022.
Based on the facts of the case, Razmy had run amok at his family home.
When his father tried to calm him down, Razmy responded by throwing a mobile phone at the former, injuring his head.
The victim filed a police report for further action, leading to the arrest of the accused a day after the incident.
It was informed that the accused had been involved in drug-related activities.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
