Man gets fine or three months in prison for threatening colleagues

KUCHING: A man working as a food delivery driver at a prominent fast food restaurant has been sentenced to a fine of RM2,000 or three months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court for threatening to kill four of his colleagues with a kitchen knife.

Samsol Saimi, 47, pleaded guilty to the charge, which was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan on today (Sept 1).

According to the charges, Samsol intentionally threatened to kill four victims, aged between 19 and 26, using a kitchen knife.

The incident took place at a workers dormitory in Lorong Setia Raya, Tabuan Tranquillity here, at around 12.30am on Aug 28.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to seven years, a fine, or both.

Based on the case details, the female complainant and her three friends were at the workers dormitory when Samsol arrived and brandished a kitchen knife while uttering the threatening words, “I kill you all.” Fearing for their safety, one of the complainant’s friends promptly contacted the police.

Ten minutes later, a police patrol team arrested Samsol near a petrol station in Jalan Canna.

The investigation revealed that his actions were driven by work-related stress, leading him to use a knife to chase and threaten to harm all the victims.
