KUCHING: The High Court here sentenced a former school teacher, Muhammad Naseefullah @ Heawian Einie, 48, to five years in jail for having Islamic State (IS) materials on him.
He is accused of two offences – possession of three books titled Tarbiyah Jihadiyah (Jilid 1-6), (Jilid 7-11) and (Jilid 12-16), which have elements of the IS terrorist group, and 10 photographs in connection with IS in his laptop.
The accused was charged under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code (Act 574) for having in his possession, custody or control, items associated with IS and punishable under Section 130JB (1) of the same code.
On December 1 2017, the accused was arrested by a team of police officers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) on suspicion of being involved in security offences.
The accused, a history teacher, was remanded under the Security Offences (Special Measure) Act 2012 (Act 747).
Mitigating for a lighter sentence, Muhammad Naseefullah’s lawyer said his client has been working as a teacher for 27 years and has aged parents, wife and two children who are dependent on him.
