KUCHING: The Sessions Court here yesterday sentenced a man to five years’ imprisonment and 13 strokes of the cane for possessing syabu in front of an open-air eatery in November last year.

The accused, Chang Bui Ping, 44, had pleaded guilty to two charges read before Magistrate Musli Abdul Hamid.

According to the first charge, he was accused under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39A(2) of the same Act, with possessing 35.59 grams of methamphetamine.

On the second charge, he was accused of possessing 7.09 grams of methamphetamine.

He committed the offences in front of an open-air eatery in Batu Kawa, around 10:15 pm on November 2, 2022.

The court sentenced him to five years jail and ten strokes of the rotan for the first charge and another two years jail and three strokes for the second charge.

The Court ordered Chang to serve the prison sentences concurrently, effective from the date of arrest on November 2, 2022.
