Man gets nine months for drug possession

KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to nine months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here today (Mar 20) for possessing 0.04g of the drug- syabu, two years ago.

Liew Yu Teck, 32, from Tapah, Padawan, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the facts of the case, a police team from IPD Padawan Narcotics Crime Investigation Division conducted a raid at a house in Tapah at about 11 a.m. on April 26, 2021.

As a result of the raid, they managed to arrest a man, who handed over a green container full of crystals suspected to be syabu.

The Malaysian Chemical Department later confirmed that the substance was a methamphetamine-type drug weighing 0.04 grams.
