KUCHING: A 34-year old man will have to spend time in jail after the Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to seven months behind bars for stealing a water jet worth RM600.
Taib Jamel, from Kampung Pengkalan Kuap in Kota Samarahan, committed the offence in front of a supermarket at Jalan Sultan Tengah, here at around 4pm on Sept 3, 2020.
The court heard that he removed the equipment from a car without the permission of the owner.
The offence is punishable under Section 379 of the Penal Code and carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both upon conviction .
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered the accused to serve the jail term from the date of sentencing which is tomorrow (Jan 18).
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar presided over the case while Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted.
