KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to seven months in prison for drug abuse.
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered Afis, 29, to serve his sentence from the day of his arrest, June 9.
The accused was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) for consuming methamphetamine and amphetamine, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum jail term of two years, if convicted.
According to the case brief, Padawan narcotics police arrested the accused on June 9. His urine sample later came up positive for drugs.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang requested that the court impose a heavy sentence on the accused as a lesson.
