BAU: A man and his girlfriend were arrested by police to facilitate investigations into a case involving the death of a six-year-old child in Kampung Kranj recently.
Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement, said a police report was received on Dec 21 last year where a woman and her eldest daughter were afraid to return home as she had been abused by her boyfriend (suspect).
Some two weeks later, the Kuching Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to detain the suspect and his girlfriend at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho and Jalan Stampin Timur on Wednesday (Jan 4).
“Interrogations found that the 35-year-old male suspect had beaten the 34-year-old woman’s youngest child to death and dumped the victim’s body in a bush around Kampung Kranji.
“At 6.45 pm on the same day (Jan 4), the police were led by the male suspect to the location where the victim’s body was disposed.
“The victim’s mother was also taken to the location where she confirmed that it was her child, based on the clothes and the doll the victim was holding,” he said.
It was believed that the suspect had committed the heinous crime five days before the police received the police report.
Poge added that the victim’s body was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for post-mortem.
The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He assured that investigations into the case will be carried out thoroughly and professionally and it will be referred to the state Attorney-General’s Office once it is completed.
