SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 28-year-old man to one day’s imprisonment and fined him RM3,000, in default six months’ jail, for committing forgery.
Magistate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar convicted David Floren from Sg Skuau of the offence as charged after he pleaded guilty to the charge on today.
The accused was indicted for having forged three documents, to wit, “Salary voucher” for the months of May, June and July 2021, intending the forged documents be used for the purpose of cheating a money lending company of RM3,000.
According to the charge, the incident occurred at the premises in Market Road here on Sept 16, 2021 at approximately 1.30pm.
The offence punishable under Section 471 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 468 of the Penal Code carries a jail term which may extend to seven years and fine as well if convicted.
Prosecuting officer Insp Badrul Iskandar Selamat told the court that on Sept 16 last year at about 1.30pm, the complainant, who is the manager of the money lending company, checked the validity of the borrower, who is the accused.
Prior to that, the accused signed an agreement that stated he worked at Nagashu Jaya company and made a loan from the money lending company for RM3,000.
After receiving the money, the accused never made any repayment. This resulted in the complainant making an investigation and found that the accused never worked at the company.
Believing he had been cheated, the complainant lodged a police report.
The accused pleaded for leniency. He was ordered to serve the default sentence as he could not pay the fine.
