SIBU: An odd job worker has been arrested for allegedly abusing a four-year-old boy who has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sibu Hospital for brain haemorrhage.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the suspect, aged 36, was nabbed at 10.30am on Friday following a report lodged by a grandmother of the child.
He said on Oct 1, the 47-year-old woman found the child in a weak condition with bruises on his forehead.
“The woman quickly rushed the boy to hospital at about 12.35pm that day,” he said.
ACP Stanley added that the woman was advised by doctors to lodge a police report as they believed the boy had been abused.
“Doctors have performed an operation on the victim as he had bleeding in his brain,” he said, adding that police investigation revealed that the boy was a stepson of the suspect.
ACP Stanley said the boy was in a stable condition at the ICU of the hospital. However, he is still unconscious.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
