KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to eight months in jail for possessing 0.05g of syabu in June.

Tan Hai Fatt, 35, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Barayan Lenya to a charge framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.

If convicted, he could be fined up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for a term of up to five years.

He was allegedly in possession of the prohibited substance by the stairs of a flat building in Batu Kawa at around 1.45 am on June 6.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the police arrested a suspicious man on the stairs of a flat in Batu Kawa.

A physical examination led to the discovery of a straw tube containing a crystal substance suspected to be syabu drugs, with an estimated weight of about 0.10g.

The drugs were hidden under Tan’s buttocks.

The seized item was then taken to the Chemistry Department, and the report confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine weighing 0.05g.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while Tan was unrepresented by counsel.
