KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to eight months in prison for possessing 0.65g of syabu two months ago.
Abdul Raziq, 39, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
If convicted, he could be fined up to RM100,000 or face imprisonment for a term of up to five years or both.
He was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine in a room behind a house in Kampung Tabuan Melayu around 1pm on June 15.
Based on the case facts, police raided the room and arrested Abdul Raziq on suspicion of being involved in drug activities.
Inspections led to finding of a plastic straw containing crystalline substance in the right pocket of the man’s denim pants.
A chemist’s report confirmed that the substance was methamphetamine weighing 0.65g.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Abdul Raziq was unrepresented by counsel.
