KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to one year and two months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here, for threatening to kill his mother and damaging her bedroom door, all because of RM80.
Mohd Ikhmal, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali to two charges read out by an interpreter.
According to the first count, he was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening to kill his 60-year-old mother.
Meanwhile, under the second count, he was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for damaging property namely the bedroom door belonging to his mother, causing a loss of RM70.
Ikhmal committed the offence at their family home in Kampung Boyan, at around 7 pm last Monday.
The court sentenced him to one year and two months in prison for the first charge, and one year in prison for the second charge.
Nursyaheeqa ordered Ikhmal to serve the prison sentence concurrently effective from the date of his arrest on Sept 25.
According to the facts of the case, Ikhmal went amok by kicking his mother’s bedroom door until it was damaged. The estimated loss suffered by the mother is around RM70.
During the incident, he also said he wanted to hurt his mother if she did not give him RM80.
The mother called the police for help as her son acted more aggressively by damaging the back door of the house.
Investigation found that Ikhmal committed the offence of causing criminal fear to his mother and damaged a bedroom door.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while Ikhmal was unrepresented by a counsel.
