Man jailed four months for elbowing wife

KUCHING: A local man, who elbowed his wife in the face for intervening while he was scolding their child, was sentenced to four months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today (Sept 26).

Awang Faridd Shah Awang Zainuddin, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

The incident happened at their home in Kampung Rampangi at around 4.14 pm on September 17.

Based on the case facts, the 45-year-old complainant was in the bedroom when she overheard her husband scolding their child. When she attempted to calm him down, he reacted aggressively, elbowing her in the face.

Fearing for her safety and that of her child, the complainant lodged a police report for further actions. Faridd was arrested the next day (Sept 18) after locking himself inside a car.

Investigations revealed that he had caused injuries to his wife using his hands. A medical report confirmed that she sustained injuries to her face and ear tissue.

ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while, Faridd was unrepresented by counsel.
