KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today for possessing 0.08 grammes of methamphetamine.
Wee Chuan Hock, 58, pleaded guilty to the charge which was read by an interpreter before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.
According to the charge, he was accused of possessing the drug in a house in Kenyalang Park, here at about 3 pm on Jan 9 this year.
He was charged in accordance with Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and read together with Section 12 (3) of the same act.
Zaiton ordered the accused to serve the prison sentence effective from the date of his arrest on Jan 9.
According to the facts of the case, on Jan 9, a police team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, Kuching district police raided a house in Kenyalang Park and arrested the accused on suspicion of being involved in drug activities.
During the inspection in the house, they found a blue plastic packet containing lumps of crystal suspected to be methamphetamine.
The case was then taken to the Malaysian Chemistry Department and the report confirmed that the substance contained 0.08 grammes of methamphetamine.
The prosecution of the case was carried out by prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
