KUCHING: A man, who pleaded guilty to robbing a woman, was sentenced to seven years’ jail as well as two strokes of the cane today (June 30).
Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga meted out the sentence on Nur Ameiza Adnan after he pleaded guilty under Section 395 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
The judge, in delivering the sentences, ordered the punishment to begin immediately.
However, as Puncak Borneo Prison is still undergoing lockdown orders, he was ordered to be temporarily detained at Sekama Police Station.
Nur Ameiza with his friend, who is still at large, was accused of snatching the 44-year-old woman’s handbag at 6pm at a car air-conditioner repairing shop at Jalan Nyatoh, Taman Supreme here on June 20.
Among the stolen items were an identity card, a driver license, several debit cards, Iphone 11 Pro Max with a Digi sim card, a wallet containing cash amounting to RM2,600, a wallet containing RM300 cash as well as two charity association cards.
