KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to six months in prison for threatening to kill his father with a machete after being reprimanded to find a job.

Gibbson, 22, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to a charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

He intentionally uttered murderous threats against his 57-year-old father using a machete at their residence in Kampung Stampin Iban around 6.45pm on June 9.

Based on the case facts, investigations revealed that the father advised his son to seek employment instead of continually asking for money.

Angered by his father’s advice, Gibbson responded with death threats while wielding a machete.

The confrontation escalated after Gibbson asked for RM50 and only received RM20 from his father. Fearing for his safety, the father lodged a police report for further actions.

Investigations also found that the son had two prior records related to drug abuse.

Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff prosecuted the case while, Gibbson was unrepresented by counsel.
