Man jailed six months for housebreaking

KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for trespassing and stealing six television units belonging to an electronics company in June last year.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi passed the sentence on accused Mohd Amin Abdullah, 30, after changing his guilty plea during today’s hearing.

According to the charge, he was alleged to have broken into an electronics company office at 5th Mile, Jalan Penrissen, at about 11am  on June 23, 2021.

During the intrusion at the premises, he stole six Sharp television units belonging to the company.

Therefore, the accused was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, for housebreaking which carries a jail term of up to five years and is liable to a fine, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who was an employee of the electronics company, realised that the company had lost six units of television.

The footages of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera inspection found that an unidentified man had climbed the fence at the back of the company’s factory and stole six units of television.

The complainant then lodged a police report for investigation and further action led to the arrest of the accused.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
