KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a local man to three months in prison for stealing a tablet from a 31-year-old man.

Liew Choi Poh, 22, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

He committed the offense at a building in Jalan Bukit Bayor around 3 pm on January 25.

According to the case facts, the complainant discovered his Redmi Pad tablet was missing and tracked its location using a device tracking tool to a fast-food restaurant in Tabuan Jaya.

The complainant then approached two men who were acting suspiciously at the restaurant and inquired about the tablet, which both denied possessing.

Upon closer inspection, the complainant found the tablet hidden under one of the men’s shirts.

Liew was detained by the complainant and handed over to the police, while his accomplice managed to flee the scene.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case, while Liew was without legal representation.
