SELANGAU: A man found sprawled in middle of the road at KM77 Sibu-Bintulu Road on Wednesday morning was believed to have been killed in a hit-and-run.

Augustine Belun Kempas, 23, from Rh Kempas, Batu 42 Jalan Oya, Sibu, who died on the spot, had serious injuries to his head.

Mukah Police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau said initial police investigation suggested Augustine was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road.

He said the incident was believed to have occurred at around 5.00am near the road junction to Selangau Bazaar.

“This is the second hit-and-run incident that happened in the area this month. I urge those who have witnessed or have information about the incident to go to Selangau Police Station or any nearby police station to assist us in our investigation,” he said.

Jimmy said the Augustine’s body was taken to Mukah Hospital for a post mortem and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, 1987.
