LIMBANG: A 38-year-old man, who went out fishing for crabs at Kuala Sibukang here, is missing.

The man was reported missing by his father, a local fisherman, yesterday.

The father said his son’s boat was found at Kuala Sungai Sibukang, Pandaruan at the border of Brunei at noon but there was no one in it.

The man, who did not know how to swim, was believed to have fallen into the river while fishing for crabs at 6.30am.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation led by Senior Assistant Fire Superintendent Tawang Lingem was launched yesterday.

The Limbang Fire and Services Department (Bomba) despatched five firefighters to the location where the boat was found.

Also present during the SAR operation were the missing man’s brother, three Royal Malaysia Police officers, five Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel and 13 local fishermen.

Limbang Bomba has informed and contacted Brunei Bomba and the Marine Department Malaysia about the incident.
