SIBU: A local man was nabbed for allegedly possessing and transporting subsidised diesel, worth RM51,075 in a van without any permit at Jalan Chin Hua here yesterday.
Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was arrested during the “Ops Kontraban” operation, which was carried out around 7am by the marine police.
“The team stopped the vehicle and conducted a check; which led to the discovery of 500-litre tank stored at the back of the van,” he said in a statement.
He said the 41-year-old driver was nabbed after failing to produce any permit or relevant document from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for the possession, transport or storage of the controlled item.
Zulkipli added the enforcement team had seized the vehicle and diesel while the suspect had been taken to Sibu Marine Police Region 5 headquarters to assist in the investigation.
The case has been handed over to Sibu KPDNHEP for further action.
