MIRI: The marine police have arrested a local man for allegedly transporting 2,000 litres of subsidised diesel in a pick-up truck during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Taring Kontraban’.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the arrest was made at 1.30 pm in Bekenu on Wednesday (Oct 23).

“Upon inspections, the team found two 1,000-litre tanks filled with diesel in the back of the vehicle.

“During questioning, the driver failed to present any documentation permitting him to possess, store or carry controlled goods without permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN),” he said in a statement.

The driver was found to have committed an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Alexson stated that the pick-up truck worth RM65,000 and the diesel worth RM6,700 were seized, making a total seizure value of RM71,700.

The suspect together with the seizures were handed over to KPDN Miri for further investigations and actions.
