MIRI: The police arrested a 37-year-old man last Tuesday night on suspicion of molesting his step-granddaughter, aged five, last month.
Miri Police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the suspect was arrested at 9.30pm in front of a restaurant after a report was lodged by the victim’s 21-year-old mother on 14 February.
“The incident was believed to have occurred on 4 February,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Khoo said the victim was the mother’s only child, but lived with her grandmother and the suspect in Pujut Tanjung Batu here.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for molesting.
