MIRI: A local man was detained for alleged drug abuse by the district’s Narcotics Crime Investigation division on Thursday night.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the 35-year-old was detained by the police at a parking lot behind a premises at Waterfront Commercial Centre here.
“The suspect was apprehended at 8.10pm in a raid led by Inspector Mohamed Basheer AG Sulaiman.”
Prior to the arrest, the suspect was seen at a section along the alley while waiting for something.
The police believed that he was expecting someone to collect the illegal substances.
During the arrest, drugs weighing 104.35g which is believed to be worth RM10,100 were seized from the suspect.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was high on drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
